Pediatric Optometry Clinic

Screening your child for any eye disorder is a very vital part, which most of the parents forget to do. During infancy, a child’s vision is constantly changing. In the earliest months of their lives, babies can only focus on close-up objects, and they see only high contrast colors, such as black, white, and red. At six months of age, however, visual acuity sharpens. It is at this point that babies should have their vision examined by an optom to ensure that their eyes are developing normally, perform as a team, and are working together. If not, one or both eyes may be affected and that could lead to conditions like Amblyopia and Binocular vision disorders. This not only affect the child’s vision but also lead to poor Academic performance in their schools.

Trinity Optics has specialized optoms who can diagnose and manage any of the conditions present in your child.

What is a Refractive Error?

Normally, rays of light entering the eye are brought to a precise focus on the Retina - the light sensitive layer lining the back of the eye. When such a focus is not achieved, a refractive error results and vision is not clear.

MYOPIA - The light rays are focused in front of the Retina.

HYPEROPIA - The light rays come to a focus behind the Retina.

ASTIGMATISM - Incoming light rays are unable to reach a common focus within the eye.

What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism relates to the shape of the front surface of the eye. An astigmatic eye will have an oval front surface, like a rugby -ball, while a non-astigmatic eye will have a round front surface, like a basketball ball.

When the light passes through the round, non astigmatic eye, it focuses on one point; when the light passes through the oval, astigmatic eye, it focuses on two points, thus making objects appear blurry or out-of-focus.

What are the effects of astigmatism?

People with astigmatism cannot see both horizontal and vertical lines clearly at the same time. Therefore, they tend to have blurred or distorted vision when looking at a distance.

Can soft contact lenses correct astigmatism?

Absolutely. In fact, There are Soft Toric Contact Lenses for astigmatism which are specifically designed for people with astigmatism, so they provide sharper vision than regular contact lenses.

  • Cover one eye and look at the Spoke of the wheel.
  • Do some spokes appear darker than Others?
  • If they do, you may have astigmatism.
  • Contact Your Eye Care Professional and ask for a comprehensive eye exam.
Ask Yourself:

Do you need to hold the newspaper at arm's length while reading?

Do you need to wrinkle your forehead to see clearly?

Do you have occasional headaches or blurred vision?

It could be Presbyopia:

It's normal. It's natural for the lens in your eyes to become slightly less elastic as you approach the age of 40 resulting in near vision problems, termed as presbyopia .....

It shows up through these symptoms :

You may experience headaches, blurred near vision and the need to hold objects at a further distance to see them clearly.

It shouldn't stop you from enjoying clear vision :

Yes , it won't . As long as you take regular eye tests and get your prescription updated on time, Presbyopia won't cause any problems. The right eyewear and eye care will go a long way in helping you see better.

Appropriate Eye Glass and Counselling Can Help :

After 40 , regular eye exams are all the more important. They help in:

  • Checking whether your current prescription is still right for your eyes.
  • Establishing the overall health of your eyes.
  • Deleting other age related problems such as cataract and glaucoma.
  • Get a comprehensive eye exam once in 6 months and enjoy the beauty of vision ....
Vision correction options for Presbyopia :

Today there are various vision correction options available , such as glasses and contact lenses . We offer you various kinds of frames and lens options to choose from.

Bifocals :

These lenses contain two segments of different prescription strengths, one for distance and one for reading. There is an obvious line of demarcation between the two segments. Bifocals are available in D-shapped segment, round segment and executive segment.

Progressives :

If you feel that bifocals betray your age, you can opt for Progressives, which are the most preferred choice today. Here, there is a gradual transition from distance to near without any division. Hence, there is no visible division between the distance and reading segments. Progressives provide comfortable vision for distance, intermediate and near.

You can also opt for two sets of glasses-one for reading and one for distance vision.

Multifocal Contact Lenses :

These are soft contact lenses that are fitted as bifocal lenses to correct both distance and near vision problems...
